Issues With the Weekly Email |
We've been having issues with our email system so if you haven't seen it yet, this is the weekly email...
I don't want to use this forum to get into the events of Saturday night,
but needless to say we're disapointed that the actions of so few can
shine a negative light on the hardwork we've all done to make Crew
Stadium one of the hardest places to play in MLS. It was nice nice
however to get back to soccer so quickly as we easily handled Salt Lake
in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup qualifying. This Saturday the Crew will be
traveling out to LA to take on Chivas at 10pm and you can join us for
our offical viewing party at Tommy Keegan's (no promise of sorority girls this time).
Now on to this weeks news:

pending, but will be either $15 or $20. You need to call Sam Pierron in
the KC Ticket Office to reserve your tickets. His number is

We have been invited to the Cauldron tailgate, which is not to be
missed. The food is incredible. There is no charge for visiting
supporters, but donations are encouraged.

The third order of scarves has been placed and will be in by June 6th. The Crew Union online store is now taking orders and we'll ship them as soon as we get them in or you can wait and pick one up at the next tailgate.
Terrace Talk
Is the Nordecke going through some growing pains? As in most entities,
if you grow too fast, things can get out of control and you get burned
by the flames a bit. The Nordecke appears to be in such a state right
now after the New England match, where some fans crossed the line in
throwing a number of un-sanctioned projectiles. This includes beer,
ice, beer cups, beer bottle (plastic), water bottles, and allegedly
batteries. Let's make this incredibly simple.
Continue reading David Kugler's Terrace Talk...
Streamers
- DO NOT THROW ANYTHING THAT IS NOT A STREAMER
ONTO THE FIELD. Throwing anything beyond streamers will not be
tolerated and you will be thrown out; this includes beer cups, smoke
bombs, etc. They are a danger to the players and officials.
- I know people love throwing streamers, but
don’t throw them at our own players when they are taking corner kicks.
(This didn't seem to be a problem at the KC game)
"We'd rather not have beer bottles be thrown," said Ezra Hendrickson.
"Someone could get hurt. It's the first time they've done something
like that. We love those guys. We feed off their energy. We don't want
them throwing beer bottles, though. That can make even one of our guys
get injured. At the end of the day, we want them to get keep supporting
us like they have, and as long as they stop throwing dangerous things
like beer bottles, we will have no problems."
"Obviously, we want to keep it clean," said Danny O'Rourke.
"Bury guys in streamers and make it intimidating. That's fine. It even
gives us a little breather and a chance to get set. All we ask is that
everyone keeps it clean."
Fado Bus Trips
This season Fado Irish Pub has teamed up with the Crew Union to provide the ultimate Crew match experience. For nine of the Crew's home games this season Fado Irish Pub will provide a party bus equipped with a keg of Carlberg to transport Crew fans to and from Crew Stadium. Each bus package include tickets to the selected games, transportation to and from Crew Stadium, as well as Carlsberg beer on the bus!
Party Bus Itinerary
Two and a half hours prior to kickoff the party bus will pickup downtown passengers outside of Tommy Keegan's European Pub in the Brewery District, and take them to Fado Irish Pub in Easton.

Party bus passengers will join the Crew Union in section 101 during the match.
After the match the party bus will leave Crew Stadium and drop off the downtown passengers at Tommy Keegan's European Pub before returning to Fado Irish Pub in Easton.

Reaction to Saturday Night |
|
The Crew Supporters Union does not condone anything besides streamers being thrown onto the field. It is our hope that the type of people that feel it is acceptable to throw whatever they want onto the field of play find a place to sit that is not in the supporter's corner (or Nordeke if you prefer to call it that).

Crew's New Training Facility To Be In Hilliard? |
Shawn Mitchell of the Dispatch is reporting the Crew's new training facility will be in Hilliard:
Today's Dispatch story on the state's construction budget
indicates that $500,000 in state money will go towards the Crew's new
training facility in Hilliard. As of right now, that's as much as I
know, but rest assured my phone is getting a workout.
Being from Hilliard and knowing the area they love soccer as does Dublin just to the north so if part of the development includes fields for hosting turnaments, etc. the area of town would be great.
[UPDATE]
McCuller's statement released this afternoon:
“We were aware that the city of Hilliard had requested state capital
dollars in support of a potential Crew training complex and are pleased
that the state recognizes the value of investing in soccer
infrastructure in central Ohio. This is a positive development in
Hilliard’s plans for a soccer complex, but our process of evaluating
prospective sites continues.”
[UPDATE 2]
More from Shawn:
A full report, co-written with business reporter Mike Pramik, will
appear later tonight on Dispatch.com and in Wednesday’s print editions.
For now, here’s a brief recap of what we know:
--The Hilliard site appears to be the front-runner, with Delaware
County still in the mix. The Hilliard site is off of Scioto Darby Rd.,
bordered by Heritage Golf Club, Hilliard Municipal Park and Alton &
Darby Creek Rd. An extension of Cosgray Rd. past Scioto Darby Rd. would
be part of the plan.
--Although the site cannot accommodate 20-plus fields, it would
include 8-12 fields, plus indoor and outdoor surfaces for the Crew.
More fields could be added to an auxiliary site, within the city of
Columbus, at Spindler Road Park.
--Hilliard mayor Don Schonhardt said his city was hopeful that the
facility would include a sports medicine center that would be open to
the public. He also said he thought Hilliard had a better than 50-50
shot at landing the project but that the funding of both the complex
and the surrounding infrastructure (water, sewer, roadways) has yet to
be agreed upon.
--Newark and Delaware County submitted two of the strongest
proposals for site development last year, but Newark officials were
resigned to the idea that they were out of the running today.
“We put our best foot forward and we have every reason to believe we
had one of the best proposals out there,” Newark economic development
director Stephen Fowler said. “We’re disappointed but this was not
unexpected. Still, we want to continue to have a partnership with the
Crew. If a satellite presence out here is something tangible then we
want to do that.”
--State Rep. Larry Wolpert and state Sen. Steve Stivers were
instrumental in getting the Hilliard line item in the construction
budget. On a side note, Wolpert said he didn’t think state money would
be available “this time around” for site improvements at Crew Stadium.
“The parking lots – to the best of my knowledge, that did not make
this round of the capital budget,” he said. “These are pretty lean
economic times.”
--Crew GM Mark McCullers did not return phone messages, but the Crew released the following statement:
“We were aware that the city of Hilliard had requested state
capital dollars in support of a potential Crew training complex and are
pleased that the state recognizes the value of investing in soccer
infrastructure in central Ohio. This is a positive development in
Hilliard’s plans for a soccer complex, but our process of evaluating
prospective sites continues.”
--I probably jumped the gun in my post below and I apologize for
that, but based on what we learned today I think it is safe to say
Hilliard is, for now, the most likely site of the new facility.
